Shannon Crabtree

Shannon Crabtree has been captivated by light, collage, found objects, and artistic expression since childhood. The first camera Shannon was gifted was a small purple, point-and-shoot made by Vivitar that took 110 film. After graduating from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2005 with a BA in photography, Shannon went on to explore ceramics and began producing in a small, private studio. It was during this time that Shannon explored the incorporation of light into pottery, finding ways to blend photography and ceramics, two seemingly different mediums. Shannon makes functional, minimalist pottery for everyday use; lamps and luminaries are some of Shannon's favorites. Shannon continues to explore the incorporation of photography and ceramics through varying image transfer techniques, as well as light sculpture. Photography also remains a way in which Shannon communicates to the world; often through event, landscape, and portrait photography.
