Emma Fitzsimmons

Emma Fitzsimmons is a dance artist and teacher in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She performs collaborative experimental performance works at renowned stages such as Judson Church, Mana Contemporary, Dixon Place as well as many other performance venues and galleries across NYC, New Jersey, Florida, L.A. and Minneapolis. Her own dance works are often improvisational and based on score, creating meaning within the present moment.

For several consecutive years, Emma was The Director of Arts and Operations for New York City Dance Week, annually bringing together dance studios and venues across all five boroughs of NYC. As director, each year she curated and produced NYC10, offering ten emerging artists the opportunity to perform, receive access to professional services, and a portion of ticket sales. The festival also offers a huge amount of free classes throughout the city, workshops with Alvin Ailey for kids, and a giant Dance Week party.

Emma and her partner created CaptureDances, which aims to bring together dance artists and photographers to create art and cross-disciplinary relationships.

You can find the CaptureDances website here to stay up to date on upcoming meetups.

Emma graduated from Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, and received her BA in Dance and International Studies from The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. For her undergrad she did a multi-disciplinary thesis project in Liverpool, U.K. as well as taught dance classes in Northern Thailand to stateless school age children. In recent years she has travelled to France and Mexico to study Flying Low techniques with international dance artists.

Besides her passion for dance, Emma is a photographer, content creator, video editor, anatomy nerd, collaborative energy worker, business owner, Yoga and Pilates teacher. She has extensive training with renowned anatomist Irene Dowd in kinesthetic anatomy, biomechanics, and movement analysis. She is Balance Body Certified for Pilates and has her 200 hr Yoga Certification from CorePower Yoga. She is the co-founder of ZE MOVES, an online Pilates studio which emphasizes that any exercise can be adapted to every individual to help heal with anatomically sound exercise.
